Sustainability activities

We are convinced that we cannot succeed in a world that fails. Therefore, we put significant efforts into improving the efficacy of food and pharmaceutical production at all levels of the industry.

Given limited global resources, we endeavor to minimize our use of raw materials and energy. We continuously improve our working methods, production processes, products and services. Our manufacturing sites are either accredited or have implemented the applicable environmental requirements into their quality management systems. An example of this effort is DSM’s Scotland-based vitamin manufacturing facility in Dalry, which was awarded the Carbon Trust Standard certification as part of a leading group of twelve Pathfinder companies. The Carbon Trust standard is the world’s first accreditation scheme designed to allow companies to measure the carbon footprint of their operations.

We care for consumers

We provide the best food, beverage, dietary supplement, and pharmaceutical ingredients produced in the most sustainable way. Many of our ingredients are essential for healthy growth, vitality and physical well-being. With Quality for Life™, we participate in the production of quality products for you.

We care for our people

We believe that companies with a focus on sustainability are long-term winners in their markets. We actively seek to promote social responsibility and good environmental performance throughout our business. We make continuous efforts to improve the occupational health and safety of our employees. We also involve our suppliers and contractors in our efforts to improve social and working conditions as well as the safety, health and environmental (SHE) performance in our supply chain.

We care for others

We aim at business activities and products that empower sustainable development. We support community programs and provide our expertise to help tackle malnutrition. Since March 2007, Royal DSM has been the official partner of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the largest provider of food aid to the world's hungry. DSM has also been running its own humanitarian program, SIGHT AND LIFE, for over 20 years and has recently developed the Nutrition Improvement Program to develop innovative business models that support bottom-of-pyramid populations.

This is our continuous commitment to provide our expertise, experience and resources needed to support programs. We also work with universities, global and local partners to improve human nutrition and health. It is our way of encouraging exchange of scientific information and nurture corporate social responsibility in our generation.
