Our AR coating reduces the amount of sunlight reflected off solar panels, capturing more of the sun’s energy and delivering higher output gains of 3% in flash tests compared to non-coated modules.
In fact, today this single technology is enabling more than 200 million solar modules worldwide to capture more of the sun’s power, saving an equivalent 2300 ktons of CO2 since 2011.
The patented materials behind this technology are based on reversing the traditional nano-porous silica coating, resulting in a product that performs consistently from batch-to-batch.

About DSM AR coating
Our AR coating is easy-to-use and apply; it works with different types of glass; it’s very easy to clean (thanks to its unique closed surface); it’s mechanically robust during module production and assembly; and it has excellent optical properties.
Our customers tell us it works – and so does our extensive internal test data. In fact, our AR coating has been subjected to a range of tests including accelerated weathering tests conducted in accordance with IEC 61215; as well as accelerated Damp Heat tests, Humidity Freeze tests and Thermal Cycling tests.
We operate full, working outdoor test sites in India, China and The Netherlands - as well as extensive indoor lab testing in Europe and China. From here, the data we collect and process is validated through our ongoing partnerships with renowned technical institutes like TÜV, Fraunhofer ISE and CPVT.
