Bovaer® is a feed additive that reduces enteric methane emissions, contributing to a significant and immediate reduction of the environmental footprint of meat, milk, and dairy products. In Dairy Cows it reduces methane on average by 30%, which translates into around 1 mt of CO2 equivalents per cow per year. In Beef Cattle it reduces methane on average with 45%, which translates into around 0,5 mt of CO2 equivalents per head per year. The methane reduction effect of Bovaer® is dependent on the ration fed to you Dairy and Beef Cattle and the dosage of Bovaer® applied. The Canadian authorities today granted market authorization for Bovaer®, a methane reducing feed ingredient for cattle, which enables dairy and beef farmers to substantially lower their carbon footprint.

Trials conducted at CERZOO, dairy farm of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Piacenza, Italy, confirm efficacy of Bovaer, dsm-firmenich’s methane-reducing feed supplement for ruminants, achieving reductions close to 50% in methane emissions.

A decisive step towards low-methane milk has been taken by Bel Group in one of its major dairy basins. Having successfully completely a series of pilot tests for Bovaer®, a revolutionary feed additive by dsm-firmenich that reduces livestock methane emissions, Bel is now starting to roll out this pioneering solution to the majority of its dairy producers in Slovakia. They supply around 70 million liters of milk per year to make the Group’s renowned Babybel® cheeses distributed in Central Europe and the United Kingdom. Implementing Bovaer® will cut methane emissions for each farm by approximately 1/4 and would represent an overall yearly 400-ton methane reduction.
