Furthermore, we provide clear information about the social and environmental footprint of our ingredients, their traceability and any applicable eco-certifications at the product level.

Strengthening sensory properties

Every day, we optimize the sensory properties of hair care, skin care and sun protection applications for our customers (and their customers). We also co-create bespoke solutions with our customers; for example our facial mapping technology, developed to demonstrate the efficacy of one of our skin actives.

Ultimately, through sustainable innovation - from biotechnology to more eco-friendly suncare - we hope to inspire conversation and overall change within the personal care industry.

Sustainable skin bioactives

Our Alpaflor® portfolio of skin bioactives is helping to tackle skin cancer based on a sustainable philosophy of organic, traceable and fair trade ingredients.

We developed several internal tools to help us measure the sustainability footprint of our product ingredients against tangible criteria - which is then externally evaluated by independent sustainability experts like the Carbon Disclosure Project. We then share this information with customers. The result: one of these projects demonstrated that more than 45% of DSM’s entire personal care portfolio is of natural origin. Building on this, DSM Personal Care has created the House of Naturals, consisting of a portfolio of 55 ingredients that are of natural origin, verified natural or certified organic. This range represents more than 60% of the entire personal care portfolio.
