Appearance of aging signs in differently pigmented facial skin by a novel imaging system

Campiche R., et al. J Cosmet Dermatol. 2019 ;18 :614–627

There is differential manifestation of aging signs in different ethnic groups. In this regard, studies on Black Africans from the African continent are scarce. We filled this gap using a new visualization technology (ColorFace®) and compared it to expert ranking. The high correlation between expert ranking and wrinkle and pore measurements prove ColorFace® a valid imaging system to study skin aging. The results also clearly show that Africans from the African continent show delayed signs of aging compared to Caucasians.

Revealing the secret life of skin - with the microbiome you never walk alone

Sfriso R., et al. International Journal of Cosmetic Science, 1–11

The skin microbiome has become one of the leading trends in skin research. Although the number of scientific publications on the topic is strongly increasing, a general and comprehensive overview on the skin microbiome is lacking. This review closes this gap, it explains extensively the current status of the research spanning through the sampling and analysis technologies and a strong focus on how to plan and perform solid clinical studies. It is completed with an outlook and an extensive list of references.

Facial skin mapping: from single point bio-instrumental evaluation to continuous visualization of skin hydration, barrier function, skin surface pH, and sebum in different ethnic skin types

Voegeli R., et al. International Journal of Cosmetic Science, 41, 411–424

Visualization of clinical study results has become recently a winning sales argument in the consumer communication. The skin mapping technology enables the transformation of bio‐instrumental data to continuous 2D and 3D visualization of facial skin features. This approach reveals the complexity of facial skin and the differences of differently pigmented skin types.

Early-life regional and temporal variation in filaggrin-derived natural moisturizing factor, filaggrin-processing enzyme activity, corneocyte phenotypes and plasmin activity: implications for atopic dermatitis

McAleer M.A British Journal of Dermatology (2018) 179, pp431–441

Atopic dermatitis is a one of the major concerns in skin care. This papers reports about a cross-sectional, observational study investigating regional and age-dependent variations in NMF levels, activity of proteases and CE maturity in stratum corneum (SC) from infants to determine whether these factors could explain the observed predilection sites for AD in early life.
