Calcium (Ca) and Phosphorus (P) are two key elements that ensure the bone health and eggshell quality.
Bone health sets the foundations for muscle growth and prevents welfare issues such as lameness. Eggshell quality is expected by consumers of table eggs and, is an important factor for hatchability in breeders.
Variation in limestone quality can lead to over or underestimation of Ca & P, impacting bone health and eggshell quality.
Phytic acid, a compound found readily in cereal grains, can bind Ca and P and lower their bioavailability in the gut.
