Singapore, SG, 14 May 2019 15:00 SGT/08:00 CET

Royal DSM, a global science-based company active in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living is partnering with Singapore-based innovation catalyst Padang & Co to launch a new innovation hub in Singapore, to enable the co-creation of solutions to tackle the region’s nutritional, health and sustainability challenges.

Set to open its doors in the first quarter of 2020, the Bright Science & Technology Innovation Hub will engage and connect DSM, technology startups, entrepreneurs, and other corporate and ecosystem partners in the material and life sciences ecosystem.

The Innovation Hub will create new opportunities that deliver positive impact in the Asia-Pacific region through DSM’s wealth of expertise in emerging science, tackling malnutrition and enabling more sustainable food production within planetary boundaries.

Pieter Nuboer, President DSM Nutritional Products, Asia Pacific, said: “Asia is facing daunting demands for resources and energy to provide prosperity for society at large. With our current patterns of production and consumption these demands simply cannot be sustained within planetary boundaries. Innovation through new applied science and business models will be the key for the radical overhaul required from nutrition to materials. We are proud to extend our resources to a community of like-minded partners that will drive co-creation of breakthrough solutions we all need to reach the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Situated within DSM’s Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore, the Innovation Hub builds on the company’s commitment in promoting equitable access to healthy food and nutrition, tapping into its scientific competencies in material sciences to create better and more sustainable materials, while promoting low-carbon technologies and a circular economy. These objectives are aligned with the SDGs: 2 (Zero Hunger), 3 (Good Health & Wellbeing), 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy), 12 (Responsible Production & Consumption), and 13 (Climate Action).

The launch of the Bright Science & Technology Innovation Hub is a testament to the vibrancy of the startup ecosystem in Singapore, where we will drive the co-creation of innovative products and business models for the region. We are excited to collaborate with a strong global brand and company like DSM, and work alongside best-in-class startups with solutions in nutrition and health, resources and circularity, and climate and energy, and with such technologies as traceability, sensors and IoT, packaging, etc.” Padang & Co CEO, Derrick Chiang, adds.

The Innovation Hub will be a collaborative workspace for startups, as well as teams from DSM’s collaborations with other institutions. It will host events to stimulate learning and connections, and programs to build capabilities. Startup members will also have access to DSM’s laboratories for the prototyping and development of nutritional products.

Ultimately, the Bright Science & Technology Innovation Hub will also represent the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit DSM is seeking and accelerate its digital transformation for purpose-led, performance-driven growth in Singapore and beyond.
