dsm-firmenich’s Vertis™ CanolaPRO® wins CFIA Innovation Award

dsm-firmenich secured two nominations in the ingredients category at the 2024 CFIA Innovation Awards in Rennes, France. Both Delvo®ONE and Vertis™ CanolaPRO® were honored with a nomination by the French trade show where this year’s theme was “the food of tomorrow” and Vertis™ CanolaPRO® took home the coveted accolade.

The award win was accepted in partnership with Firmalis, Vertis™ CanolaPRO® distribution partner in France and marks a key step in the commercialization of Vertis™ CanolaPRO®. Vertis™ CanolaPRO® also won the Best Plant-Based Snack category in 2023’s World Plant-Based Innovation Awards from FoodBev.

What makes Vertis™ CanolaPRO® different to other plant proteins?

The result of 10 years of R&D by dsm-firmenich, coupled with the company’s desire to provide sustainable protein for a growing global population, Vertis™ CanolaPRO® was first launched in 2023. The ingredient valorizes a side-stream of rapeseed oil production, one of the world's leading vegetable oils, to create a high-quality, plant-protein isolate that is free from major allergens. With Vertis™ CanolaPRO®, manufacturers can access a versatile ingredient that enables them to meet the growing consumer demands for plant-based protein without the need for additional arable land.

Vertis™ CanolaPRO® contains sufficient levels of all nine of the essential amino acids needed for a protein to be considered a complete protein which reflected in its Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) of 1 – equivalent to that of animal protein. Vertis™ CanolaPRO® is also rich in cysteine, an amino acid which may help protect against exercise-induced muscle damage as it is a building block for glutathione, making it ideal for endurance athletes such as cyclists and long-distance runners as well as amateur athletes or fitness enthusiasts.

Vertis™ CanolaPRO® also has good solubility, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications and blending with other plant-proteins.
